If you have daughters who have collected a lot of dolls while growing up, creating doll clothes for them would be a surefire way to make you look like you are a doll expert in their eyes. And what would be a better way to create these dolly clothes than to make them out of your daughters' baby clothes. You not only save big bucks in buying those expensive doll clothes, you also get the perfect chance to utilize your kids' old clothes. Your kids will be in awe when they see their dolls wearing the same clothes that they are wearing before.

Baby Clothes For Your Baby Dolls

Supplies Need to Create Doll's Clothes out of Baby Clothes

Since there are different dolls that can be collected nowadays, the supplies that you are going to need would differ on what kind of doll you're going to use. You can use a baby doll, a toddler doll or those dolls that are played by older kids such as Barbie. The easiest to do is the baby doll because you will only need little adjustments to do with the old baby clothing so it can fit a baby doll. Other dolls require advanced skills in sewing since you will be working with two or more pieces of clothing, which is not that easy to make.

The supplies needed in dressing up a baby doll are the following: a baby doll (those that doesn't have hair or bald), baby pajamas or overalls, a good pair of scissors, sewing machine or needle and thread (if you want to sew by hand) and you're going to need a lot of sewing pins.

Creating Doll's Clothes out of Baby's Old Clothes: The Process

1. Measuring the adjustments.
Put the doll inside the pajamas. You're going to need to turn the pajamas inside out so it will be easy for you to mark where you are going to start sewing.

2. Pinning all around.
Take out your pins and start pinning all over the doll making sure that a good amount of the area is set for allowance. You must pay attention to the neck, wrist, and ankle, and adjust to make it small enough for the baby doll.

3. Taking out the doll.
When you have it all pinned, carefully take out the baby doll making sure not to lose any of the pins. The pinning process will ensure that you can put and take out the doll's clothes easily.

4. Sew the line where you pinned.
Now, it's time for you to sew the doll's clothes. You will need to follow the pinned line as much as possible. Take out pins as you go through it.

5. Cutting around the stitch.
When done stitching, cut around it leaving a ¼- ½" allowance.

6. Helm the sleeves.
Put the doll's clothes on the doll making sure to turn it right side out. Mark with a pin the part of the sleeves where you want the hem. Take it out of the doll, cut ¼- ½" away from the pin and remove the pin. You're now ready to hem the sleeves. When you're done, put the doll's clothes again on the doll.
Creating these dolly clothes is so easy and you do not have to be an expert in sewing.
You can also get your kid a new doll, dress it up with one of their baby clothes and give it as a gift on special occasions. Your kids will love how you added a personal touch to their gifts. And nothing is more rewarding than seeing your kids appreciate what you gave to them.

Making doll's clothes using baby clothes is not a lengthy process, and it doesn't require special skills or equipment either. Once you have the right supplies, some old baby clothes and lots of patience, you'll be able to create your own dolls clothes.
